Singer/actress/TV interviewer/writer/balladeer/cabaret artist, Miss Brandes favors jazz and standards, Sondheim and Harold Arlen, and her shows have been described as "all valentines and romance."
"Unlike most jazz singers who keep an emotional distance from their material, here is a jazz singer who evokes a stunning vulnerability on stage."
Most comfortable in the intimate setting of cabaret, she has experienced musical heights of another sort by singing the national anthem, accompanied by a 140-piece orchestra, to 62,000 Oilers and Raiders fans at the Houston AstroDome, and, singing that same anthem, remains the "undefeated good luck charm" of various other national basketball, football, and baseball teams. Her book of songs and petry, Love in the World I Remember, written for her terminally ill mother, has sold over 50,000 copies, and has inspired her CD of the same name.
